#1 Coloardo Avalanche goaltender Paul Francouz made 25 stops in Colorado’s 4-0 convincing win over the Edmonton Oilers to take a 2-0 series lead.

#2 What’s a danger for the Oilers is they now have pressure going back to Edmonton for games three and four at Rogers Place and will have to work some magic to get back in this series as it could very well get late early for the Oilers.

#3 It was impressive work by Francouz considering he was replacing starting goalie Darcy Kuemper who suffered an upper body injury in game 1. Francouz has the hot hand do you see him starting game 3 tonight and what the latest status on Kuemper?

#4 Mika Zibanejad scored the game winning goal for the New York Rangers as they edged the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden in New York 3-2 this was the Rangers second straight win as they take a 2-0 series lead.

#5 The Rangers got help from goaltender Igor Shesterkin who stopped 29 shots and stopped the Lightning from getting in the net the win for the Rangers were their eighth straight win at MSG setting a team record for wins on home ice.

#1 The New York Rangers avoided getting eliminated as Chris Krieder scored a third period goal at 1:28 that broke a 3-3 deadlock with a shot from the left point that deflected off the Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Louis Domigue for the score. The Rangers would win it 5-3 tying the series at 3-3.

# 2 The Florida Panthers advanced to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 4-3 overtime win over the Washington Capitals at the Capital Center. The Panthers Carter Verhaeghe scored at 2:46 in overtime for the game winning shot.

#3 The Dallas Stars defeated the Calgary Flames on Friday to tie up the series 3-3 with a 4-2 win. The Stars Joe Pavelski said that they are a confident group that can play through tight games and the Stars have been competitive in the playoffs.

#4 The Boston Bruins avoided elimination on Thursday with a win to tied up the series with the Carolina Hurricanes 3-3. Both teams meet again today for a 1:30 pm PDT puck drop.

#5 The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs face off at 4:00 pm PDT as the series is tied at 3-3.

#6 Kings-Oilers battle in Edmonton tonight at 7:00 pm PDT as this series is tied 3-3 everything on the line tonight.

#1 The Pittsburgh Penguins (46-25-11) advanced to the playoffs with a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets (37-38-7) 5-3 on Friday night at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins will face the Rangers for the Eastern Conference first round in game 1.

#2 Both the Buffalo Sabers (32-39-11) and the Chicago Blackhawks (28-42-12) concluded their regular season with the Sabers getting an overtime win over the Blackhawks 3-2 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo Friday. The Blackhawks started out with a 2-0 lead but the Sabers came back and tied it up in the second period 2-2. The Sabers Casey Mittelstadt got the overtime game winning goal at 2:53.

#3 The Boston Bruins lost their last game of the season to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night 5-2 and will face off with the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Leafs will play the Tampa Bay Lightning.

#4 It was the first win for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price since game 4 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs Finals. It was a landslide of goals scored by the Canadiens 10-2 over the Florida Panthers on Friday night at the Belle Centre. Price stopped 37 shots and it was his 700th start and 712th game with the Canadiens for his 361st career win.

#5 In his first game in five seasons for the Detroit Red Wings goaltender Magnus Hellberg it was like riding a bike you just don’t forget. Hellburg stopped 20 shots by the New Jersey Devils to help in a 5-3 win at the Prudential Center on Friday night. Hellberg played five years in the Kontinental Hockey League before signing an Apr 13th free agent contract with the Red Wings.

#1 He was called the cornerstone of the Montreal Canadiens dynasty, scoring at least 50 goals for six straight seasons for the Habs superstar Guy Lafleur died at age 70 after a three year battle with cancer. LaFleur played from 1971 to 1985 and returned to playing from 1988-91 and was a five time Stanley Cup Champion.

#2 The Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov scored his 100th point and then eclipsed it on Friday against the Seattle Kraken at the Xcel Energy Center in St Paul in a 6-3 win. Kevin Fiala set a Wild record with five assists for points in nine consecutive games.

#3 The Ottawa Senators goaltender Filip Gustavsson stopped 33 shots enough to hold back the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Friday night in Columbus. The Senators won in a shootout 2-1. The Sens Tim Stutzle scored the only goal in the shootout enough for Ottawa to get by Columbus.

#4 The Toronto Maple Leafs Wayne Simmonds was fined $2250 for charging the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev at 15:21 of the third period of Thursday’s game in Tampa Bay. The money goes to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.

#5 The Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks are at SAP Center in San Jose. The Blackhawks have won two of their last 11 games, more recently winning two of their last five games. The Sharks come into tonight’s game winning one of their last 11 games.

#1 Matt, it’s hard to believe that former New York Islander Mike Bossy has passed at 65 years old. Bossy has suffered from lung cancer. Bossy was a goal scorer and a four time cup champion winner.

#2 Matt, the New York Rangers didn’t waste anytime making work of the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-0 shutout at Madison Square Garden Saturday. Igor Shesterkin in goal stopped 20 Red Wing shots for the shutout and left winger Alexis Lafreniere scored twice.

#3 Nashville Predators are hard to hold back as they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in a Saturday matinee. The Preds got scoring help from Mikael Granlund who got a goal and an assist. The win strengthens the Predators in the Western Conference wild card.

#4 The Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry is week to week with a lower body injury. Jarry didn’t practice Friday morning at the skate he stopped 36 shots on Thursday against the New York Islanders he has a 2.42 goals for the season in the win over the Isles 6-3.

#5 Black on ice officials with Jordan Samuel Thomas and Shandor Alphonso it was the first time that two black officials worked together in NHL history. Shout out to the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center who participated in the historic game on Thursday night.

#1 With just 14.1 second left with the score tied 1-1 the New York Islanders (33-28-9) Kyle Palmieri found the back end of the net and got the game winning goal to help defeat the Carolina Hurricanes (46-18-8). The win comes after the night the Isles clinched a playoff spot.

#2 In overtime last night the Boston Bruins (45-21-5) Charlie Coyle got the game winning goal at 3:37 to get the Bruins a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning (43-20-8). Coyle scored to the right of Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.

#3 In another nail biter with just 37.3 second left in overtime in the contest the Florida Panthers (50-15-6) Sam Bennett scored the game winner to help defeat the Buffalo Sabers (. Bennett’s goal was redirected from Aleksander Barkov’s pass in front of the net it was Bennett’s 100th NHL goal and 200th point.

#4 Matt, if you like overtime in the NHL this was your night the St Louis Blues came from behind to defeat the Minnesota Wild at the Enterprise Center. The Blues Robert Thomas scored at 1:27 in overtime for the gamer. Thomas’ shot was a one timer from the left faceoff circle.

#5 The Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar scored the game winner in overtime in the fourth NHL overtime on Friday as the Aves defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 at Canada Life Centre. Makar had help earlier the Avalanche’s Nathan McKinnon and Andre Burakowsky had scored goals.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning’s (43-18-6) Ross Colton found the back of the net twice on Friday night in helping the Bolts defeat the Chicago Blackhawks (24-35-10) 5-2 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay. The Lightning’s Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point both scored a goal each.

#2 The Anaheim Ducks (28-30-12) Trevor Zegras helped end the Ducks 11 game loss streak with a sound 5-0 shutout over the Arizona Coyotes (21-42-5) at Gila River Arena in Glendale on Friday night. Zegras scored his 17th goal of the season at 9:42 in the first period. Ducks goalie Anthony Stolarz a shutout saving 22 shots.

#3 The Vegas Golden Knights (38-28-4) Jack Eichel scored twice to help the Knights pick up a three goal win over the Seattle Kraken (21-41-6) 5-2 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.

#4 New York Islander (31-27-9) goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots in a 3-0 shutout over the New York Rangers (44-20-9) at Madison Square Garden in New York. It was Varlamov’s second shutout this season and his fourth straight over the Rangers at MSG.

#5 The Buffalo Sabres (25-33-11) Tage Thompson scored two times and was good enough as the Sabers edged the Nashville Predators (39-25-4) at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. The Sabers Peyton Krebs and Victor Olofsson scored a goal each in the Sabers 4-3 win.

#1 The Washington Capitals (36-20-10) Alex Ovechkin can do it all he scored his 41st goal of the season a real bullet no time for the Buffalo Sabers goalie Dustin Tokarski to get a glove on the top shelf goal and later Ovechkin scored the winning goal in the shootout against the Sabers (23-33-9) for the 4-3 win at Key Bank Arena in Buffalo on Friday night.

#2 The New York Rangers (41-19-5) Chris Kreider took it to the Pittsburgh Penguins (39-17-10) with two goals in a four goal win 5-1 for the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Mika Zibanejad picked up his 500th career point and Andrew Copp scored his first goal with the Rangers.

#3 Another disappointing finish for the Montreal Canadiens (17-37-10) who were eliminated on Friday night when the Capitals defeated the Sabers. The Canadiens who sit in 16th and last place in the Eastern Conference will have to go home after the regular season and figure it out for next season.

#4 Patrik Laine made his Winnipeg (31-25-10) return in the Columbus Blue Jackets (32-29-4) uniform for the first time since being traded to the Jackets back on Jan 23, 2021. Laine had four shots on goal and three shots blocked by the Jets on Friday night. The Jets edged the Jackets in overtime 4-3.

#5 The Chicago Blackhawks (24-32-9) Jonathan Toews will play in his 1000th game against the Florida Panthers (43-14-6) next week Thursday and it did not come easy as Toews missed all of last season because of chronic immune response syndrome and this year had to deal with concussion issues missing 11 games. Is Toews facing the end of his career he says he’s not sure what he will do after this season.

#2 Matt, talk about the key winning goal by the Buffalo Sabers Tage Thompson that helped get the win over the Calgary Flames in overtime at 3:07 for a narrow 1-0 win. Also big hand for the Sabers goaltender Dustin Tokarski who stopped 24 shots for the shutout.

#3 The Ottawa Senators Josh Norris help end the Senators three game losing streak with a go ahead goal in the third period that handed the Senators a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night. The Sens Aaron Forsberg stopped 28 out 29 shots.

#4 The injuries are piling up for the Vegas Golden Knights the latest have center Jack Eichel doubtful for against the Los Angeles Kings for Saturday. Eichel blocked a shot with his hand and could sit out. His teammates goaltender Robin Lehner, two defencemen Brayden McNabb and Alec Martinez and three forwards Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty, and Reilly Smith are all on the injured list. Inspite of that the Knights snapped a five game losing streak with a win over the Florida Panthers 5-3 on Thursday night.

#5 Matt, just to name a few of the players who are trade deadline as of this morning maybe you could update us, the Vancouver Canucks Brock Boeser, New York Islanders Cal Clutterbuck, Andrew Copp Winnipeg Jets, Jake DeBrusk Boston Bruins, and Marc Andre Fleury Chicago Blackhawks. #1 Marko, you might remember this guy Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars he signed on Friday an extension for the 2022-23 season with the Dallas Stars for $5.5. million. Pavelski leads the Stars in scoring and could have become a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

#2 Pavelski an ex Shark said that he and his family loved Dallas since day one and are committed to stay and in Dallas and hopefully finish his career there. Will the Stars keep Pavelski as long as they can?

#3 The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Petr Mrazek will be in net for the Leafs this Sunday at the 2022 Tim Horton Heritage Classic. The Leafs other goalie Jack Campbell is out for at least two weeks with a rib injury and the Leafs used back up goalie Erik Kallgren filled in for Mrazek.

#4 How badly does it hurt the Detroit Red Wings losing forward Robby Fabbri for the rest of the season due to a right knee injury. Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said they are trying to get a second opinion but it’s really looking like Fabbri is out for the season.

#5 The Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau is in the last and final year of this six year contract and general manager Brad Treliving said the Flames are doing everything they can to sign Gaudreau before the March 21st trade deadline.
