Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Raiders Christmas eve win in Pittsburgh can keep post season hopes alive

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Keelan Cole (84) catches a 30-yard touchdown pass against New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones (25) during the second half at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sun 12-18-22 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) got a win in a zany play when the New England Patriots Rhomondre Stevenson who got a hand off and ran for 23 yards and took the ball and flipped the ball back to teammate Jakobi Meyers who threw the ball cross field in order to keep the ball alive but the Raiders Chandler Jones was there to pick it up and run it 48 yards for a touchdown with no time left in the Raiders shocking 30-24 win.

#2 Tony did you feel that the Raiders had a little extra effort, a little extra something, a little anger in them after that Thursday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Rams and they weren’t going to take no for an answer from the Patriots last Sunday?

#3 Sheer determination for a team that had won three in a row they believed in themselves and it showed it with grit toward the end of the fourth quarter to make the come back with just 32 seconds left the Raiders got miracles from Keelan Cole who caught a 30 yard pass for a touchdown with 32 seconds left and the Jones recovery with no time left.

#4 The Raiders are in Pittsburgh to face the Steelers (6-8) on Christmas Eve at Acrisure Stadium. The Steelers have won three of their last four games. The Steelers came away with a rather handedly win over the Carolina Panthers 24-16 last Sunday. Tony how do you you see this match up on Saturday?

Raiders Beat New England Off A Bizarre Patriot Play 30-24

Raiders Beat New England Off A Bizarre Patriot Play 30-24

By Barbara Mason

The Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) took on the New England Patriots (7-7) Sunday after losing a close one to the Los Angeles Rams 17-16 last week. The Raiders controlled the first half in that game but had a real letdown in the second half only scoring a field goal in last week’s loss in Los Angeles. The Raiders down 24-17 came back with no time left to beat the Patriots 30-24 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Raiders had a 17-3 lead after the first two quarters of today’s game in Las Vegas. As in last week’s game, they played a solid first half.

It was not looking very good for Las Vegas allowing the Patriots to score 21 straight points in the second half. When it looked like the Raiders would lose their second straight game Las Vegas scored two touchdowns in the final 32 seconds. it was another thriller for the Raiders as the clock began to wind down. A wilder finish could not have been more beautifully scripted.

With the score tied at 24 and .32 seconds left on the clock the Patriots attempted a number of pitches more than likely trying to avoid overtime. The Patriots did avoid overtime but in favor of the Raiders.

The final lateral was a disaster ending up in the hands of Raider pass-rusher Chandler Jones who got past New England quarterback Mac Jones and saw nothing but open field. He romped for a 48 yard touchdown and the improbable win 30-24.

Derek Carr finished with 231 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Running back Josh Jacobs had 93 rushing yards continuing to shore up the Raider running game. Las Vegas had a cumulative 231 receiving yards with Keelan Cole catching for 50 yards, the team high. Carr and Jacobs both had one fumble but recovered both of them.

This was a most dramatic finish for Las Vegas and really messed with New England’s playoff hopes. It is a shame that the Raiders started to come around so late in the season. A better start by Las Vegas could have possibly put them into a good position for a post-season.

Next week the Raiders will be taking on the Pittsburg Steelers on Saturday evening at 5:15. Both teams have 6-8 records. Las Vegas will be on the road for that game.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders keep playoff hopes alive with no time left win over Patriots 30-24

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones (55) runs into the end zone to score on an interception during the second half of an NFL football game between the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sun Dec 18, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 Rich this game against the New England Patriots (7-7) for the Las Vegas Raiders came right down to the wire where this was a must win game for them.

#2 Once again this game came right down to the last two minutes and Raiders quarterback Derek Carr really needed to make it happen down by a touchdown 27-14.

#3 Carr threw to Mack Jones with 3rd and 10 and couldn’t convert as the ball was dropped. this was a game where the Raiders who had a 14-6 at the half. The second half started with the Patriots shutting out the Raiders in the third quarter and in the four the quarter Raiders down 24-17 Raiders Keenan Cole catches a 30 yard pass from quarterback Derek Carr which tied the game up at 24-24.

#4 With no time left on the clock the Raiders Chandler Jones picks up a Patriot fumble and runs it back for 48 yards for a return and the game winning touchdown for a Raiders win 30-24. The Raiders win another nail biter.

#5 Rich Raiders improve to 6-8 and get ready to face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers who are also 6-8 in Pittsburgh next Saturday night on Christmas eve. The Raiders can’t lose a game or they’ll be eliminated from the playoffs. Each game is a nail biter.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders have home field against Patriots this Sunday

The Los Angeles Rams Jalen Ramsey (right) wasn’t covering the eyes of Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Devante Adams (17) from watching the Raiders fall but defending him after a completed catch in first half action at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday Night Football Dec 8, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, It seems that after the Las Vegas Raiders had won three straight that they may have righted the ship but going to Los Angeles and losing to the Rams in the last ten seconds of the game last Thursday night throws that winning streak out the window?

#2 Breaking down the play the Rams in those last ten seconds saw wide out Van Jefferson caught a 23 yard pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield to get the Rams to the promise land for the 17-16 win over the Raiders.

#3 Baker Mayfield was all but given up by the Carolina Panthers and sent packing the Monday before last Thursday’s game. Panther head coach Steve Wilks did not plan to use Mayfield as either as a starter or a back up quarterback. Mayfield wanted out of Carolina and in his first game with the Rams made good use of his time to help LA pick up their fourth win of the season.

#4 It was a game where there was just not enough offense for the Raiders who didn’t score at all in third quarter and just a field goal would have helped them get that fourth straight win but it was all for not in the one point loss.

#5 The Raiders try it all over again as they face the New England Patriots (7-6) this Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Patriots have won four of their last six games and head coach Bill Belichick has not lost his touch in his clever ways to win a football game.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Superbowl Wayne: Raiders fail to execute drop game to Rams in 4th quarter

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Van Jefferson are thrilled after the game winning touchdown with ten seconds left in the game for the win over the Las Vegas Raiders at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thu Dec 8, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Superbowl:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders (5-8) who had a three game win streak dropped a game when they were ahead 16-3 with 3:19 left in the fourth quarter when the Los Angeles Rams (4-9) Cam Akers carried for a yard to cut the Raiders lead to 16-10.

#2 The Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield throwing his first game as a Ram after coming to the Rams just 48 hours early in the week and came out and threw the game winning touchdown for 23 yards to Van Jefferson for the 17-16 win.

#3 The Raiders didn’t get on the scoreboard in the third quarter likewise the Rams. It was a crucial third quarter as the Raiders needed to get on the board but not doing so would cost them later in the game.

#4 For Mayfield going 22-35 for 230 yards and one touchdown and the Raiders defense kept after Mayfield all night but the Rams stuck to it and won it with just ten seconds left.

#5 The Raiders made mistakes with getting into penalty trouble and it helped moved the ball against them and the Rams and Mayfield were able to make hay in the final seconds of Thursday Night Football.

#6 The Raiders go up against the New England Patriots (6-6). The Patriots at Allegiant Stadium Sun Dec 18th a 1:05pm kick off. The Pats have been playing .500 ball do they catch the Raiders down after their loss to the Rams or do the Rams get fired up and try to put the Patriots to bed?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Tough drills for Patriots with Raiders in today’s practice; plus more Raiders news

Miami Dolphins linebacker Duke Riley (45) tackles Las Vegas Raiders running back Kenyan Drake (23) during the first half of Sat Aug 20, 2022 pre season game at US Bank Stadium in Miami (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 The idea of having NFL teams facing each other in practice drills has to be a given that friction will be no doubt. That’s what happened in today’s practice between the visiting New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders in Las Vegas today.

#2 The Patriots no doubt were trying to impress their old offensive coach Josh McDaniels but it just wasn’t working on all cylinders for the Pats. On the 11on 11 scrimmages the Pats had only four positive plays in 18 attempts.

#3 Rich looking back on the Raiders last game against the Miami Dolphins they were down towards the stretch 13-12 but as all good teams do the Raiders came back with a fourth quarter touchdown and pulled off a 15-12 win. It might be pre season but the Raiders are 3-0 going into Friday night’s game against the Patriots.

#4 Rich, do you see quarterback Derek Carr getting some snaps in the fourth and final pre season game against the Patriots. Will coach McDaniels want to take a look at what Carr can do before the regular season gets started.

#5 Running back Kenyan Drake said in an interview with AP that the Raiders had no more room in the back field and that the 28 running back will be moving on. Drake was told personally in a phone call by Raiders general manager Dave Zeigler. Drake said that he appreciated the respect of the call from Zeigler.

Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels looks onto the field during Nov 14, 2021 game at Foxborough has been hired as the Las Vegas Raiders new head coach as of Sun Jan 30, 2022 (AP News file photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, the Las Vegas Raiders have made big news on Sunday hiring a new general manager Dave Ziegler and a new head coach Josh McDaniels. Both men come from the New England Patriots. Zeigler was head of player personnel and McDaniels was offensive coordinator at the Patriots.

#2 Ziegler replaces former Raiders general manager Mike Mayock who was fired in early January. McDaniels was also head coach at the Denver Broncos for two seasons 2009 and 2010. McDaniels replaces interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.

#3 Rich, Coach Bisaccia led the Raiders to their second post season in 19 years and at the end of the season the Raiders had won four of their last five games before being eliminated in the AFC Wild Card game by the Cincinnati Bengals.

#4 Bisaccia is a free agent and the Chicago Bears are interested in hiring Bisaccia as special teams coach and will work under Bears head coach Matt Eberflus who was hired on Thursday by the Bears.

#5 Rich, McDaniels comes from the Patriots where he was offensive coordinator there since 2012 and under head coach Bill Belichick. So McDaniels had some good mentoring under Belichick all those years.

The New York Mets Javier Baez scores ahead of the tag by the Miami Marlins catcher Alex Jackson for the winning run in the first game of a doubleheader at Citi Field in Flushing on Tue Aug 31, 2021 (AP News

Baez who got hit by a pitch which resulted in cheering from the Mets fans as Baez scored from first to home for the game winning run over the Washington Nationals 6-5. Jessica would it appear that Baez has redeemed himself?

#2 Mets team president Sandy Alderson said that the thumbs down gestures had to stop as Alderson had spoke to both Lindor and Baez before Monday night’s game to stop. They both apologized and Baez needed to do something to make up for his mistake and scoring the winning run is a good start.

#3 Jessica, will this hurt Baez’ chances to sign on for a new team and other teams who saw this will just move past Baez as Baez becomes a free agent in 2022.

#4 Jessica, turning to the NFL the New England Patriots released Cam Newton who in pre season threw for 14-21 for 162 yards, the Patriots will go for Mac Jones as their starter who was 36-52 for 162 yards. Newton was a Super Bowl quarterback when he was with the Carolina Panthers but lost in the Super Bowl, Newton said on Instagram regarding his release from the Patriots “don’t feel sorry for me I’m good.”

#5 Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyers said that he has weighed some of his cuts on the roster after the last pre season game based on unvaccinated and vaccinated players saying “Everyone was considered,” Meyer said. “That was part of the [considerations such as] production, let’s start talking about this, and also is he vaccinated or not? Can I say that that was a decision maker? It was certainly in consideration.”
