On That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Does Kyler Murray’s decision to leave the Oakland A’s for the NFL Draft or will he be a two sport player much like Bo Jackson and Dieon Sanders?

#2 How serious are the Philadelphia Phillies about pursuing Bryce Harper and does Amaury think they’ve got the best chance of acquiring him?

#3 How much does it take out of ball clubs when they open the season in Tokyo because of the distance the A’s open this season in Japan. Do the players enjoy the trip and do they find it productive and challenging?

#4 San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner is still in the shopping sweepstakes. No deals yet, but plenty of interest.

#5 Manny Machado has an seven-year deal on the table that could be as huge as 13 years at $325 million from the Chicago White Sox. Will it be too good to pass up?

#6 White House treated the Clemson Tigers to lunch with hamburgers boxes from Wendy’s, McDonalds, and Burger King on silver platters with paper napkins and plastic containers of mustard, mayo, and ketchup. Could Trump have served better food for lunch.

Clemson dominates Alabama to claim national championship

The first drive ended in a pick-six, the first half ended with a stalled offense and the game ended in devastation.

For Alabama, it was a result that not even their harshest critics could’ve imagined. For Clemson, it was pure ecstasy: a 44-16 rout over the Crimson Tide at Levi’s Stadium on Monday to claim the national championship.

Clemson led 31-16 at halftime and never looked back, outscoring Alabama 13-0 in the second half to clinch the title. The Tigers end the season a perfect 15-0, the first team in the AP poll era to do so. It is the program’s second championship.

“We’re gonna enjoy this one. We’ve got a nice spot to put it in our facility, right next to that other one,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. “We’ve got twins!”

In the process, they became the first team to defeat Alabama by more than 14 points since Nick Saban took over as coach in 2007. And in many ways, it was stunning. Trevor Lawrence carved up a premier Alabama defense to the tune of 347 yards for three touchdowns on 20-of-32 passing. His favorite target was Justyn Ross, who caught six passes for 153 passes and a touchdown.

From the start, the Tiger put their imprint on the game. Alabama quarterback Tua Taovailoa, who threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns but also had two interceptions, tossed his first pick on his third pass attempt. It went all the way back for a touchdown, with A.J. Terell returning it 44 yards for Clemson.

The Tigers scored touchdowns on three of their final five drives of the first half, and then shut down the Crimson Tide in the second half. Three times, Alabama went for it on fourth down — including a fake field goal attempt on its first drive of the second half. Three times, it was denied.

“We’re 15-0, we beat the best team ever, nobody’s taking that away from us,” defensive tackle Christian Wilkins said.

With another title win over Saban’s team, Clemson is no longer the little brother to Alabama. The two teams have faced off for four straight years in the College Football Playoff, and it is apparent: Clemson is every bit as equal, every bit as dominant and revered a program as Alabama.

Stanford Cardinal football podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: Cardinal and Pitt meet for the first time since 1932; Costello had a great season with 3435 yards passing

On the Stanford Cardinal football podcast with Jerry:

#1 Jerry, it’s the first time that the Stanford Cardinal (8-4) will face the Pitt (7-6) for the first time since 1932 in Pittsburgh. The Cardinal faced Pitt three times In 1928, the Cardinal beat Pitt in the Rose Bowl 7-6.

#2 Talk about the season that Stanford quarterback KJ Costello had. He threw for 263 completions for 3435 yards and 29 touchdowns.

#3 Pitt lost their latest game Saturday to Clemson 42-10 in the ACC Championship.

#4 Stanford running back Bryce Love, who was injured most of the season, had six in the touchdowns. Stanford’s other running back Cameron Scarlett had six touchdowns.

#5 So it’s Pitt and Stanford for the Sun Bowl. Jerry tells us how he sees this contest on New Year’s Eve.

NCAAFB podcast with Michelle Richardson: It was the Pitts for Pitt upended by Clemson; Ohio’s offensive unit does the trick in laying out Northwestern; plus more

photo from Yahoo! Sports: Washington Huskies head coach Chris Peterson hoists the Pac-12 Championship Trophy after defeating the Utah Utes at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara on Friday night.

On the NCAAFB podcast with Michelle:

#1 Clemson (13-0) got a huge win over Pitt (7-6) Saturday 42-10 to their fourth straight ACC title. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence went 12-24 for 118 yards and Pitt’s quarterback Kenny Pickett struggled, throwing 4-14 for for just 14 yards.

#2 The Ohio State Buckeyes (12-1) finished off Northwestern (8-5) 45-24. The Buckeyes dominated, thanks to fine offensive quarterbacking of Dwayne Haskins throwing for 499 yards, was picked off just once and had five passing touchdowns but the amazing thing was he got one touchdown on a shot gun and his offense did the rest of the work.

#3 The Washington Huskies (10-3) hoisted the Pac-12 Championship trophy on Friday night at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with a 10-3 win over the Utah Utes (9-4). Huskies quarterback Jake Browning threw for 187 yards and a touchdown as that was enough to get past the Utes in defensive game. Plus Michelle’s final thoughts.

Michelle Richardson on the NCAA

by Michelle Richardson

Texas A&M 51 vs. Mississippi 41 : Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel threw for 446 yards and five touchdowns, but he also had three interceptions and that’s something he didn’t do last year, he didn’t throw picks much. So I don’t know if that’s an advisement on him as a quarterback or his receivers and his communications between him and his receivers.

Manziel he didn’t have any picks last year he still is playing great that’s something that can turn when it comes to his performance. He’s not that guy he’s really smart with the ball, Still a great game last Saturday more so than Texas A&M playing great the fact that Mississippi stayed in over the past two years their recruiting got better.

It’s really starting to challenge other SCC teams that have talent but other teams are starting to come up you got a Texas A&M team and although Mississippi State isn’t ranked they’re 1-5 and 1-4 in the SCC but their just playing better ball. They’re being more competitive, so I can’t wait to see what happens in the future of the ACC and what’s going to happen.

Florida St 59 vs. Wake Forrest 3: I love Florida State and I was a Florida State alum and they haven’t been a champion in a long time. Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is really giving Florida State something to be excited about but you have to take into consideration Winston is a really great quarterback but please understand he’s a great quarterback because he has some great players on the bench that are really making great catches for Florida State.

The defense is really, really doing their thing, Wake Forrest had seven turnovers and that reminds how Florida State went down to Clemson part of that was because Winston was managing the game and he was smart. That’s because the Florida defense made their move they went in there and they cleaned house. They cleaned house they let them know they were going to hit and hurt Wake Forrest and they made them cough up a ball.

You have to take a lesson from Winston he’s definitely the man as far as the Heisman Trophy is concerned, traditional Florida State was fantastic what can you say. This game was just a bludgeoning and they took it to Wake Forrest the fact they even got three points I’m surprised. For Florida State 21 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second, ten in the third, and seven in the fourth.

Charleston Classic basketball Nov 21st: I’m so excited about being able to cover the Charleston Classic starting November 21st, in this series you have Nebraska, UMass, New Mexico, Georgia, Davidson, Temple, Clemson, this match is going to be chalked full of talent. I haven’t seen Temple play in years. It’s going to be an interesting group of teams, you want to be the blazers of UAB.

UAB kills dragons, they are dragons, they know how to kill a dragon. UMass, Clemson this is all the beginning of the year, Georgia is there, this is going to be great, this is going to be a good way to start the season. New Mexico is in the top 25, they at number 23 this will be a good chance for them, Nebraska their the big kid on the block now in the Big Ten.

Nebraska got to go up against teams like Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio State, who are perennial in the top 25 of NCAA basketball. In football it’s just as difficult, in basketball they got to deal with the likes of an Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky, this is going to be a great tournament I look forward to seeing everybody a lot of new faces out there and a lot of old faces out there from some of my former alums.

One thing guaranteed it’s going to be a great time.
