Cal Bears football podcast with Daniel Dullum: Cal hopes for victory against USC to close out 2021 regular season

Cal Bears head coach Justin Wilcox (center) as seen in this Sat Oct 30, 2021 file photo against the Oregon State Beavers has prepared his team to face the USC Trojans for this Sat Dec 4, 2021 at Cal Memorial Stadium in Berkeley in the final game of the regular season (AP News file photo)

On the Cal Bears football podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel, things have been going well for the Cal Bears (4-7) they have won three of their last five games and have recovered nicely since they had that run with Covid with a little over half the team was on the Covid list and they took that tough loss to the Arizona Wildcats (1-11) back on 10-3.

#2 The Bears had a bye week and then met the Stanford Cardinal (3-9) and crushed them in their own Stadium on Sat Nov 20th 41-11 in the Big Game.

#3 Then there was the Bears last game last Sat Nov 27 at UCLA (8-4) where Cal got crushed 42-14, Bears quarterback Chase Garbers struggled to get throws in the end zone and the Cal offense were victims of three and outs.

#4 The Bears defense spent a lot of time on the field against the Bruins and that defense had a hard time trying to stop the Bruins from moving down field.

#5 So the Bears try and go back to the drawing board as they host the USC Trojans (4-7) in a make up game that was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak on the Cal football team. The Trojans lost their last game in a narrow contest against BYU 35-31 at USC. Daniel how do you see the Bears and Trojans matching up this Saturday at Cal.

Cal Bears Football podcast with Daniel Dullum: Cal-USC postponement gives Bears a week to prepare for Stanford

Cal Bears head coach Justin Wilcox stands on the sidelines with his players against the Oregon State Beavers on Sat Oct 30, 2021photo. Wilcox said the team followed all the Covid 19 protocols but nonetheless Sat Nov 13, 2021 game against USC has been postponed to Dec 4, 2021 (AP News file photo)

On the Cal Bears Football podcast with Daniel:

#1 Whose dumbfounded the most in the Cal Bears (3-6) Covid 19 situation head coach Justin Wilcox who said the team followed protocols or the other head scratcher how did the team contract Covid 19 that forced them to postpone this Saturday’s game with USC (4-5).

#2 Either way Daniel the Bears get a week off after that grueling game in Tucson where Cal quarterback Ryan Glover just couldn’t get any offensive traction going against the struggling Arizona Wildcats (1-8).

#3 The key thing in the game against the Wildcats the Bears who were missing over 24 players due to Covid 19 protocols coach Wilcox had a rough time getting second stringers, practice squad players and back up to jell in what some would call a thrown together situation.

#4 How important will this week be for the Bears to regroup from last week’s loss in Arizona get a week off and prepare for the Big Game against the Stanford Cardinal (3-6) at Stanford Stadium next Sat Nov 13. The Cardinal are coming off that horrendous loss to the Utah Utes (6-3) 57-7 and are looking for a better game. How do you see the Bears and Cardinal matching up next week?

#5 Lastly Cal quarterback Chase Garbers will have had two weeks off the first week against Arizona where he sat out for Covid 19 protocols and this Saturday for the same reasons. Enough time to recover from the Covid issues and start throwing the rock in preparation against the Cardinal.

Cal Bears Football podcast with Daniel Dullum: Oregon State win for Cal was a great test of will for Bears

Cal Bears quarterback Chase Garbers drops back to pass against the Oregon State Beavers on Sat Oct 30, 2021 at Arizona in Tucson this Sat Nov 5, 2021 (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears football podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel looking at the Cal Bears (3-5) winning their last two games is this a vast improvement after losing three in a row?

#2 The Bears were coming off a healthy 26-3 win against the Colorado Buffaloes (2-6) to start the first of two wins and in convincing fashion 26-3 and after losing three in a row Cal hosted the Oregon State Beavers (5-3) and won what most critics have said was a big test going back to Memorial Stadium.

#3 The Beavers coming into Cal last Sat Oct 30th had won five of their last six games and had defeated some of the Pac 12’s most challenging teams like the Utah Utes (5-3 and first place) and USC (4-4) for Cal to defeat them 39-25 had to be the Bears biggest win of the season so far.

#4 Daniel, talk about Cal quarterback Chase Garbers he had a big day last week against the Beavers throwing 17-26 for 262 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The point that he didn’t have any interceptions says the O line was giving him lots of time to throw three touchdowns.

#5 This Sat Nov 6 in Tucson the Cal Bears take on the Arizona Wildcats (0-8) a 12 noon kick off Daniel your in Arizona right now. The Wildcats have not won a single game this year and are starting to feel the pressure. The defense simply could not hold USC in their last game and Wildcats quarterback Will Plummer was 20-34 for 264 yards, no touchdowns and no picks. How do you see this match up this Saturday.

Cal Bears quarterback Chase Garbers throws against the Colorado Buffaloes defense on Sat Oct 23, 2021 at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley the Bears host the Oregon State Beavers this Sat Oct 30, 2021 (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears football podcast with Daniel:

#1 The Cal Bears (2-5) picking up a crucial second win against the Colorado Buffaloes (2-5) Sat Oct 23 at UC Berkeley 26-3 and for head coach Justin Wilcox he was glad to see the offense respond the way they did.

#2 The Bears did most of the damage in the first half scoring ten in the first quarter and 13 in the second quarter and getting a field goal in the fourth quarter for all their scoring.

#3 Cal quarterback Chase Garbers under center threw quite a game 22-29, 225 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

#4 Daniel, second half different story both the Buffaloes and Bears defense shut it down. Colorado were completely shutout in the second half and the Bears picked up a field goal in the fourth quarter.

#5 The Bears host the Oregon State Beavers (5-2) this Sat Oct 30th, the Beavers are coming off a huge victory over the Utah Utes (4-3) from last Sat Oct 23, 42-34. Beavers quarterback Chance Nolan really opened it up going 14-19, 208 yards, and two touchdowns. Daniel how do you see the Beavers and Bears matching up on Saturday?

Cal Golden Bears podcast with Daniel Dullum: Cal faces Jekyell and Hyde Colorado in the first of two home games

The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Brandon Lewis looks for a receiver at Boulder Col. The Buffaloes hosted the Arizona Wildcats on Sat Oct 16, 2021. Colorado plays the Cal Bears this Sat Oct 23, 2021 at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel the Cal Bears (1-5) have had a tough time of it with five loses in the loss column Bears head coach Justin Wilcox trying to figure things out on both sides of the ball.

#2 The Oregon Ducks (5-1) Cal’s last opponent won by a touchdown. The Ducks scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and that pretty much was the difference in the 24-17 loss.

#3 The Ducks a formidable opponent didn’t give much breathing room to the Bears on both sides of the ball and on offense Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown threw 20-28, 244 yards, only one touchdown pass but it was big since the Ducks won by a touchdown.

#4 Bears quarterback Chase Garbers had a decent afternoon against the Ducks last week 25-43, 247 yards, and two touchdowns. No doubt Garbers was airing it out but couldn’t convert a lot of his pass attempts.

#5 The Bears will play the first of two home games starting with the Colorado Buffaloes (2-4) this Sat Oct 23 at Cal. Daniel which Buffaloes team is going to show up the team that got slaughtered in a laugher to USC 37-14 on Oct 2? Or the team that won in a laugher last Sat Oct 16th in Colorado shutting out Arizona (0-6) 34-0.

Cal Bears football podcast with Daniel Dullum: Cal pays Oregon a visit this Saturday in week six

Cal Bears quarterback Chase Garbers (7) throws a second quarter pass against the Washington State Cougars Sat Oct 2, 2021 at Cal Berkeley (AP News photo)

On the Cal football podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel, in the last two games the Cal Bears (1-4) have convincingly been defeated Sep 25 in Seattle by the Washington Huskies (2-3) 31-24 and Oct 2 by the Washington State Cougars (3-3) 21-6. How much would you allude the loses to a break down in the Cal defense.

#2 In the last game against the Cougars quarterback Jayden de Laura threw for 25-41, 219 yards, three touchdowns, and was intercepted twice.

#3 The Cougars scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Cal could only answer with six points in the first quarter for all their scoring for the night.

#4 Cal quarterback Chase Garbers just couldn’t get anything going on offense going 14-30, 152 yards, and no touchdowns as Cal was shutout in the second, third and fourth quarters.

#5 The Oregon Ducks (4-1) are next for Cal this Sat Oct 16th. The Ducks lost their last game to the Stanford Cardinal (3-2) 31-24 at Stanford Stadium. The Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown was 14-26, 186 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
