Cardinal remain unbeaten on home court, upends North Carolina A&T 79-65

Stanford returned to the win column with a fast start and a key second-half run as the Stanford Cardinal (4-2) defeated North Carolina A&T  (1-5) 79-65 Tuesday in non-conference men’s basketball at Maples Pavilion.

Max Murrell popped in a career-high 18 points for Stanford (4-2) on 5-of-8 floor shooting while making four of the Cardinal’s eight 3-pointers. Harrison Ingram contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double.

Noah Taitz, James Keefe and Jaiden delaire each scored eight points for Stanford, Michael O’Connell and Spencer Jones had five and four assists respectively.

David Beatty led North Carolina A&T (1-5) with 13 points while making three 3’s. Filmore Webster and Marcus Watson each grabbed six rebounds for the Aggies. Kameron Langley dished out seven assists.

Stanford surged ahead to stay three minutes into the game, eventually building a 35-25 halftime lead. The Aggies cut their deficit to four at 53-49 midway through the second half. The Cardinal responded with an 18-2 run, capped by a Murrell 3, extending their lead to 71-51.

The Cardinal shot 55 percent in the second half (16-of-29) and held a commanding 51-31 rebounding edge. Stanford is 4-0 at home this season.

Stanford opens its Pac-12 schedule Sunday at Colorado.
